We attended the soft opening of Smoking Boar on July 3, 2019 and it was phenomenal. Honestly, each and every item exceeded my expectations. Here's what we ordered:
- Cream corn (not pictured because it was eaten too fast...sorry, not sorry.)
- Brussel Sprouts
- Pork sliders
- Pulled pork sandwich
- Smoked salmon - Pie - Margie B. drink - Variety of beer
Now that I've typed all of that, I'm feeling like maybe I should be embarrassed that there were only two of us consuming that much, but for some reason I feel a sense of pride. Excuse me while I high five myself.
My very favorite item of the evening: Cream corn---don't roll your eyes or even judge my opinion. I know what you're thinking, "really, April, corn?" It was unlike any corn I'd ever had. I'm 99% sure unicorns swept through the field and sprinkled magic on the husks.
I'm going to fast forward to September when the OKC Brunch Club visited...
There were quite a few things no longer on the menu and my heart temporarily broke. The corn, brussel sprouts and a farmer's market salad to name a few. I felt like maybe me and the boar needed to chat. Anyway, I moved on from my pain because there was more food to try and there was no time for sadness.
This time around I shared the Chef's Sampler board with 4 ladies ($20 total). It came with a really filling variety of pickled veggies, meats, jalapeno corn bread, okra, deviled eggs, etc. You can get the same board for 2 people at $14 total.
After the sampler, I ordered the smoked salmon again. I try to not be a creature of habit, but I could literally hear the salmon calling my name from the kitchen---didn't want to be a mean girl, so I ordered it. I also added a side of mac and cheese (duh) and pork belly collards. I didn't want to be dehydrated so I also had a blood orange mimosa or two. Everything we ate was just as good as my first visit---bravo, Smoking Boar! (Don't think I've forgotten about the corn, though.)
My only suggestion is that the House Cold Salmon Salad explain a little better that it is a lox consistency, which is not everyone's cup of tea.
Aside from the food, the service is outstanding. Our first visit Emily was our server and she was just on it. We recommend her to others because she needs to be discovered. Our service the second time was equally great---especially with our table of 9. Everything was prompt, accurate and they were so friendly.
It was simple to make a reservation and when we arrived, our prepared table awaited us---one of my most favorite sites to walk in and see.
